Parts of Lancaster County reached 100 degrees on Tuesday with others only trailing behind.
Lancaster County temperatures came within one degree of hitting 100 degrees on Tuesday, according to Millersville University’s Weather Information Center. Millersville hasn't hit 100 degrees since July 7, 2012.
While Millersville didn't record a 100-degree temperature Tuesday, the Lancaster Airport did in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday marked the fourth day of the third heat wave the county has experienced so far this year. A heat wave is at least three days in a row of 90-degree temperatures. The first heat wave was June 18 to 23, and the second was July 4 to 10.
The county is under a heat advisory from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service issues heat advisories when the heat index – a measure of how hot the air feels -- is predicted to be over 100 degrees.
For Wednesday, the high temperature is expected to be 93 with a heat index of 101, the service said. From the afternoon into the night, a weather system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms.
The storms could become severe, according to the weather information center, with wind gusts up to 65 mph, hail and flash flooding. The heat wave is predicted to end Thursday with a high of 88.
