Two Eden Township men beat a man over the head with PVC pipe Sunday in Providence Township before abducting him and later leaving him to wander in a neighborhood, according to police.
State police are searching for brothers Earl Dean Hampton, 43, and Shawn P. Riley, 39, who were charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and four related offenses after police were called to the 500 block of Camargo Road for a report of an assault just before 2 p.m. Sunday.
A witness told police two men were beating a man on a porch at a residence on the block. A person inside the house told police the two men were Hampton and Riley.
When the person who witnessed the assault asked the two men what the beaten man had done wrong, Hampton and Riley said he did something, but they were unsure what, according to charging documents. Hampton and Riley then loaded the man into a blue sedan that belonged to the beaten man and headed west on Camargo Road.
Police found puddles of blood and two pieces of PVC pipe on the front porch and one piece of pipe on the lawn. A person inside the house said the assaulted man was from around Harrisburg and was in town for an unspecified “Christian thing” and wanted to come into the home, according to charging documents. The person in the house said the beaten man used to live at the Camargo Road home.
Police said the beaten man was from Enola, Cumberland County.
The person inside the house said the beaten man was 25 years old and had been “messing” with the 13-year-old, according to charging documents, and the men had just found out about it the night before.
Police found the beaten man the same day wandering in a neighborhood in Eden Township after police found his car near Hampton and Riley’s residence.
The beaten man’s car had blood in the back seat, and the man had a gash in the back of his head and a swollen left arm, according to charging documents. He needed eight staples to close the back of his head and surgery to repair his wrist, which was broken in three places.
The man was disoriented and told police he fell hiking, according to charging documents. In later interviews, he was reluctant to name Hampton and Riley and did not confirm or deny their involvement. He also was unable to remember how old he was.
Police are still looking for Hampton and Riley. Anyone with information can submit tips to State Police Troop J at 171-299-7650.
