Pennsylvania State troopers said they are investigating after they found a mix of drugs, as well as a large dog, in the possession of a man riding a motorcycle in West Lampeter Township last month.
Devin T. Yake, 28, of Conestoga Township, was pulled over by state police June 23 in the 200 block of Willow Valley Drive after troopers observed him driving carelessly at unsafe speeds and failing to stop at a stop sign, according to a police report. Yake held a large pitbull in his lap while committing the offenses, police said.
Upon stopping Yake, police said they found methamphetamine in his sock and that he also had marijuana and related paraphernalia. According to the police report, Yake was “determined to be under the influence of drugs” and had active warrants out for his arrest from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. Yake has prior arrests for theft, reckless driving and eluding officers.
Police took Yake into custody and transported to the Lancaster County Prison, where he remains according to prison records. Court records make no mention of bail.
The pit bull, which officers described as friendly, willingly climbed into a patrol car and was taken to Yake’s residence in Conestoga Township, where it was released to a “responsible party” according to a police report.
Yake’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for early August.
