For those living in Lancaster city, May is cause for celebration.

That's because May is the Mayor's Neighborhood Month, a yearly celebration that brings the City of Lancaster and other important neighborhood alliances out to each of Lancaster city's quadrants.

"Neighborhood month provides a unique opportunity to connect our city government with the people it serves," says Lancaster city Mayor Danene Sorace in a press release. "I encourage everyone to attend to learn about city initiatives and meet a new neighbor or two."

The Mayor's Neighborhood Month will feature four block parties, a movie night and Open Streets, an event that closes Water Street to vehicle traffic and encourages people to get outside and have fun.

Here are the details.

May 1: Sixth Ward Block Party, 680 E. Ross St., 5:30-7 p.m.

May 8: Buchanan Park Block Party, 901 Buchanan Ave., 5:30-7 p.m.

May 15: Culliton Park Block Party, 200 S. Water St., 5:30-7 p.m.
