Penn State Health Medical Group has relocated its Millersville-area outpatient clinic to a new building at 15 Shenks Lane, bringing its services closer to Millersville University students and staff.
The new clinic, which is open to the public, began seeing patients Feb. 5.
The clinic, located next to Millersville University student apartments, offers primary care, sports medicine and on-site lab services, Penn State Health said. The new building is 11,000 square feet with 19 exam rooms, and around a mile away from the clinic’s old home at 16 Manor Ave.
The Millersville office opened a few days after the Manor Avenue location saw its last patients on Feb. 2, Penn State Health spokesperson Barbara Schindo said.
Construction of the new building finished early this spring, said Ruth Gundermann, senior director for ambulatory services at Penn State Health. The original building was smaller than the new site and had outlived its usefulness in terms of patient capacity, Gundermann said.
The new clinic's staff of almost two dozen used to work at the Manor Avenue location, which lead physician Dr. Timothy Weaver said first opened in 1977. The new location is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Weaver said, but hours may be expanded in the future.
“The opening of this Penn State Health medical center signifies not just a new building but a new chapter in patient care at Millersville,” university President Daniel Wubah said. “We all know that a healthy student body is a successful student body.”
Future plans for the clinic involve offering walk-in services specifically for the university’s students, faculty and staff through a dedicated entrance, Penn State Health said.
The clinic was established in partnership with Student Lodgings Inc., an affiliate of Millersville University which owns and operates student housing — including a housing complex right next to the new clinic. High-mark Health, which began a partnership with Penn State Health in 2017, is also a partner on the project.
