McCaskey High School will induct four athletes — Troy Logan, Teasia Myers-Pena, Laurel Rasmussen and Dale Reed — into the Class of 2023 of its Athletic Hall of Fame, at 4 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium. Following the ceremony light refreshments will be served during a social hour before the inductees are introduced at halftime of the homecoming football game with Reading.
Here is a thumbnail look at each of the inductees.
Troy Logan
A two-sport standout, the 1994 graduate lettered in football and track and field for the Red Tornado. Logan was a member of the 1991 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section One championship team that advanced to the Class 4A finals of the District Three championships. In a semifinal victory over Solanco, he intercepted four passes.
Logan went on to earn All-L-L honors in the 1992 and ’93 seasons and played in the Big 33 All-Star Classic.
As a competitor in track and field, he was a member of two L-L championship teams in 1992 and ’94. He ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay teams that won L-L and District Three championships in 1993, repeating in 1994. He qualified for the PIAA championships in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 1994, running a 10.9 100 in the ’94 district championships.
Currently he shares his talents coaching his daughter’s AAU Basketball team.
Teasia Myers-Pena
A four-year letterwinner in basketball, Myers-Pena played for the Red Tornado from 2004-08. She was a two-time L-L Section One All-Star her junior and senior seasons, earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore.
A team captain her junior and senior years, she scored 1,229 points over her career, fourth overall in girls program history. The Red Tornado were 86-21 during the course of her career.
Currently she serves as the assistant director of athletics at Lancaster Mennonite School and is head coach of the Blazers’ girls basketball program.
Laurel Rasmussen
On cinders, synthetic surfaces and trails alike, Rasmussen was a standout runner.
Already a Hall of Fame inductee as a member of the 1993 girls track and field team, Rasmussen earned 12 varsity letters in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, receiving clearance to compete as a “Super Frosh” while in ninth grade. She captained the cross country team in 1990 and ’92, co-captaining in 1991.
As a freshman in 1989, she placed second in the L-L cross country championships. She capped her sophomore cross country season going undefeated in league competition, winning the L-L and District Three championships before placing fourth at the PIAA meet.
Among her many honors, she was named the L-L cross country Runner of the Year as a senior in 1992. During her spring track career she set the stadium record for the two-mile run.
A 1999 honors graduate of Millersville with a BA in psychology, she was inducted into the National Psychology Psi Chi honor society. She works at Penn State Health and is actively involved in the recovery community as a mentor, sponsoring women struggling with addiction. She also speaks at local treatment facilities.
Dale Reed
A three-sport athlete, Reed excelled on the gridiron, basketball court and on the track.
In basketball he was a two-year starter as a junior and senior. His senior year, 1992-93, the Red Tornado went 25-5, winning the L-L title, placing second in the District Three championships and advancing to the second round of the PIAA tournament.
In football he was an offensive coordinator’s nightmare as a defensive end, earning First Team All-Section One honors his junior and senior years. He recorded 15 career quarterback sacks and 154 tackles, 46 solo.
He stepped into the role of starting quarterback as a senior completing 48 pass attempts, rushing for 200 yards and three touchdowns in 32 attempts. The Red Tornado went 25-10-1 in his three years, and were section champions in 1990 and 1991.
On the track he was the L-L League runner-up in the 400-meter run as a senior, placing fifth in districts. He also ran a leg on the district championship 4x400 relay team in 1993.
