Former President Donald Trump has said in a radio interview that Vice President Kamala Harris “doesn’t like Jewish people” and appeared to agree with a host who called her Jewish husband, Doug Emhoff, “a crappy Jew.” Trump spoke Tuesday on radio station WABC. The Republican's campaign earlier announced that he will travel to Atlanta on Saturday for a rally in the same venue where Democrat Harris plans one Tuesday night. Dueling ad campaigns by the presidential candidates portray Harris as “fearless,” while an ad from Trump blasts the vice president for problems at the southern U.S. border. Trump also appears to be backing away from a commitment to debate Harris.

Three sisters of an Irish-born recipient of the Navy Cross have christened a U.S. Navy warship bearing his name — and have secured a promise that the ship will visit Ireland. The future USS Patrick Gallagher is a guided missile destroyer that is under construction at Maine's Bath Iron Works that bears the name of the late Irish citizen and U.S. Marine. Lance Cpl. Gallagher survived falling on a grenade to save comrades, an act of heroism for which he was awarded the Navy Cross. But he died later in Vietnam. The event was held Saturday at the shipyard.
Russia’s top security agency says it has arrested a man accused of staging a car bombing on Ukrainian orders. The Federal Security Service showed a video of the handcuffed suspect walking off a plane from Turkey escorted by officers. Turkish authorities said Wednesday that they detained the suspect, Yevgeniy Serebryakov, on Russia’s request. He arrived in Turkey’s resort of Bodrum hours after a car bomb went off in Moscow. Russian authorities said two people were injured. Russian media said the car belonged to a military officer. The FSB said the suspect was acting on orders from Ukraine's spy agency. It was impossible to verify the claims.
Two top Biden administration officials say Iran is talking more about getting a nuclear bomb, and has made strides in developing one key aspect of a weapon in recent months. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and national security adviser Jake Sullivan spoke at separate panels during a security forum Friday in Colorado. Sullivan says the U.S. has seen an uptick in Iranian officials talking about getting a nuclear bomb. Crucially, however, Sullivan says he has seen no sign Iran has decided to actually weaponize its nuclear program. Blinken says Iran recently has stepped up work on fissile material to fuel a bomb.

Bangladesh security forces fire bullets and sound grenades as protests over government jobs escalate
Security forces in Bangladesh have fired bullets and tear gas at protesters, as internet and mobile services have been cut off after days of deadly clashes over the allocation of government jobs. The protests, which began weeks ago but escalated sharply on Monday, represent the biggest challenge to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since she won a fourth consecutive term in office after elections in January. There were varying reports of the number of people killed Friday, with Independent Television reporting 17 dead and Somoy TV reporting 30. A death toll of 22 people was reported on Thursday, in what had so far been the bloodiest day of demonstrations as student protests tried to impose a “shutdown” of the country.
On each passing anniversary of the deadly 1994 attack against Argentina’s largest Jewish community center, Diana Malamud said she endures a brutal “Groundhog’s Day.” In her version of the Kafkaesque nightmare that traps her in the same day over and over, presidents repeat the same pledges to seek justice for the bombing that killed 85 people and profoundly unsettled Jewish communities across the continent. No has ever been convicted for involvement in the bombing. On Thursday, on the 30th anniversary of the attack, libertarian President Javier Milei became Argentina’s 11th leader to vow renewed efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Investigators are hunting for any clues about what may have driven Thomas Matthew Crooks to try to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The FBI said Sunday it was investigating the assassination attempt as a potential act of domestic terrorism. But the absence of a clear ideological motive by the man shot dead by the Secret Service has led conspiracy theories to flourish. The FBI says it believes Crooks acted alone and had bomb-making materials in the car he drove to the Republican ex-president's Pennsylvania rally. Crooks graduated from high school in 2022. Records show Crooks was registered as a Republican.
Police say a bombing outside a café in the Somali capital of Mogadishu killed at least five people. Some people were watching the European soccer final between Spain and England on a screen inside the café when a car loaded with explosives blew up outside, said a spokesman for Somali police. He told reporters that at least 20 other people were injured in the attack. Pictures posted online and purporting to be from the scene showed a fire burning outside the café in the aftermath of the explosion.
