When: West Earl supervisors meeting, July 22.

What happened: Supervisors unanimously awarded roadwork contracts for seal coating and road line painting. The township participated in a municipal co-op bidding process led by Leacock Township to obtain a better service rate.

Paving: West Earl will have 57,089 square yards of roads repaved. The roads include: Diamond Station Road, Linden Grove Road, Goods Drive, Cabin Drive, Willis Pierce Road, Covered Bridge Road and Peach Road. Total cost is $94,711.

Line painting: West Earl will have 183,690 linear feet of double yellow lines painted for $20,206 and 147,158 linear feet of single white lines for $8,230.

More: West Earl will utilize its state liquid fuels fund for the projects. Earlier this year, Leacock Township awarded the seal-coat contract to Martin Paving Inc. and the line-painting contract to A-1 Traffic Control. Other municipalities that participated in the municipal co-op included Brecknock, Caernarvon, Clay, Earl, East Earl, Ephrata, Penn, Salisbury and Warwick townships.

Butter Road: Butter Road will be closed from School Road to Concord Drive for an improvement project, Neil Stoltzfus, roadmaster, announced. The three-week project will be a “huge improvement,” according to Stoltzfus. Workers will also widen the road and install new drainage inlets. Drainage pipes will replace the swale drainage system.

Quotable: “That’s good for that road; it needs some help,” Stoltzfus said.

Appointment: The board voted unanimously to appoint Pleasant Valley Road resident John Stauffer to the West Earl zoning hearing board. Stauffer, a real estate agent with Re/Max, was in attendance and thanked officials for his appointment. He will replace Mary Beth Hellberg who resigned earlier this year, Township Manager Jenna Reigle said in a July 23 email. Stauffer’s term will end Dec. 31, 2025.

What’s next: Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at the township building, 157 West Metzler Road, Brownstown.
