Jay S. Lewis, 86 of Columbia passed away on Thursday evening, January 4, 2024 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehab Center. Born in Ironville on October 29, 1937, he was the son of the late Samuel and Louella Bleacher Lewis. He was the husband of Esther A. Warner Lewis who preceded him in death in 2016. Jay and Esther enjoyed life as a couple socializing and traveling together.
Jay started his work career with Grinnell before going out on his own in the plumbing and heating business. Serving the local area for over 50 years as J.S. Lewis Plumbing & Heating, Jay was a hard and dedicated worker. In 1978, Jay and Esther opened Jay's Lounge in Columbia operating it for nearly 15 years. Jay belonged to most of the private and fraternal clubs located in Columbia.
Jay is survived by his children, Steven J. Lewis, Christine E. Cooper and Lori L. Lewis; grandsons, Ryan and Nathan and great granddaughter, Kayla. Jay is also survived by his siblings, James Lewis, David Yoder, Jr., Sue Smith, Patsy Keppel, Charles and Joseph Tyson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Lewis, Sr. and George Tyson.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jay's graveside service on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11AM at the Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, 845 Laurel Hill Road, Columbia.
