Hot-Air Balloon Festival

Event goers had the unique opportunity to experience the inside of a hot air balloon, at the Lancaster Hot Air Balloon Festival on Thursday Sept. 14, 2023.

This year's Lancaster Balloon Festival, which lets attendees take to the skies in hot air balloons in Bird in Hand, has been canceled.

Organizers with the Lancaster Balloon Festival and Country Fair announced the cancellation on social media Monday afternoon.

"Due to much higher costs for almost every part of the event, this year is proving to be exceptionally difficult to produce the same high-quality event we have consistently provided for our guests and pilots for the past 13 years," the Facebook post says.

The same announcement is posted on the festival's website.

Organizers with the Lancaster Balloon Festival did not return a request for comment as of Tuesday afternoon.

This cancellation is intended to be a one-year hiatus, with the festival slated to return Sept. 11-14, 2025.

Those who already purchased tickets via Eventbrite can get a refund through the website, or tickets can be transferred for next year's admission.

The Lancaster Balloon Festival is a multi-day festival usually held in early-to mid-September that features many family-friendly activities, from magic shows to tractor hayrides, to bounce houses.

The festival also featured the option to add on a hot air balloon ride for a few hundred dollars a person.
