Letters to the editor logo

Let me begin by saying that my letter is twofold.

First off, thank you, President Joe Biden, for your 54 years of public service. You have accomplished more in three-plus years than any other president.

You have demonstrated dignity, honesty and integrity through turbulent times in your life, and for that I salute you. Your decision to end your campaign for reelection was difficult, but it shows you value country over party. That’s what makes you exemplary.

I would like to thank you for endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate to lead the Democratic Party forward.

The Republicans continue to speak out of both sides of their mouth. We have already seen their agenda, misinformation and conspiracy theories.

Certain state and federal elected officials continue with these false narratives. They claim that Harris is a “DEI hire” (that’s the acronym for diversity, equity and inclusion) and that she is not intellectual enough. These are dog whistles that are obviously about her Blackness.

Republicans say we should tone down the noise, and yet the incompetent one and his MAGA minions show their true character — racism, sexism and all the other phobias.

A friend who was on last week’s fundraiser call in which about 45,000 Black men supported Harris’ presidential campaign said that some who were considering voting for Republicans are now choosing democracy instead.

But the most fundamental point from the call, he said, was that they will not tolerate verbal abuse from white men toward the first Black woman and person of South Asian descent to lead a major-party ticket for president of the United States of America.
